Cup joy for Orkney's hockey ladies

A LISA Groundwater goal midway through the second half was enough to
secure the Scottish District Cup for Orkney's hockey ladies in their
final against Kinross in Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon.
A large travelling and exile support at the National Hockey Academy at
Peffermill backed Orkney as they played in their first ever district
cup final.
In an often tense match, Orkney had most of the play and numerous short
corners, but it was a long corner from Shona Slater that finally broke
the deadlock, with Lisa Groundwater firing past the Kinross keeper from
a tight angle to send the players and supporters into wild celebrations.
The match ended nervously though, with Orkney defending deeply for most of the closing five minutes.
They held out though, and captain Fiona Miller accepted the cup from Scottish Hockey president Lee Cousins.
